In the Kireina Koto project, we worked in pairs and were given a number of different subjects having to do with Japanese culture to choose from. Some of the Japanese practices included Zen Garden, Sushi making, Tea ceremony, and so on. My partner and I focused on Samurai sword (Katana) making. After studying our subject, we prepared a presentation to show the class what we learned. Below, I have included our first and final draft of our product. Throughout this project, we got a little taste of Japanese culture and learned a few simple phrases! "Ohayoo Gozaimasu" translates to "Good morning", "Ogenki desu ka?" is "How are you?", and "Genki desu" is "I am fine.". We also learned "Please sit", Please stand", and many other short phrases.
To get a better view on Japanese expectations and way of life, we also read the first couple of chapters of Shogun, a historical fiction based in feudal Japan.
