Throughout the Sound of Music project, we learned about audacity, a multi-track audio editor and recorder program where you are able to see the sound waves in live action. We worked in project groups to create a final product, a unique sound installation piece that we were able to identify and understand the physics of.
For our final product, we chose to create an instrument out of an aluminum trash can where we cut various sized slits in the bottom which, when plucked, would create a different pitched vibration. We also strung a metal wire tightly around the perimeter of the bottom so that it could also be plucked, and create different pitched noises based on the placement of the corks secured under the wire.
