One of the first exercises we completed in partner groups was to develop a conversation of our choice and create a recording of the conversation in front of the class.
Me and my partner's first Spanish conversation video was about brothers and sisters. Follow the button down below to view video de conversation numero uno!

Reflection-Video One
Something I see myself as being already good at is pronunciation and knowing simple phrases well. I’m able to see a word and identify what the pronunciation should sound like. I can also read relatively well and understand some Spanish when it’s spoken to me. Something I find more difficult in developing with in Spanish is stringing words together in speech and memorizing correct adjectives and knowing how to properly answer questions.
Something I can definitely also improve upon, in Spanish or not, is to be confident enough in my skills to present them in front of people. My partner, Evan, seemed to do well in front of the audience, but as you view the video above, you'll notice that my Spanish is somewhat broken up and I don't seem estatic about speaking quite yet. My pronunciation is fine, but I lose my confidence about halfway through and start to become hesitant. Something I would like to work on in the upcoming filming of the second video is being able to consistently string together my sentences and sound confident while doing so.

Reflection-Video Two
Something that was different from how prepared I was during this video vs. last video was definitely my confidence. I thought that I did well with pronunciation, and had the basis of my conversation memorized. I also knew what was going on during my conversation, and could think about the English phrase as I was speaking the Spanish phrase. My partner, Kelly did very well with memorization, and vocal inflection. She responded to what I was saying with the right vocal tone, and made eye contact. Something we used during the conversation that I think I benefitted from was our use of past and present tense. A disappointment/struggle we had during the conversation may have been proper pauses and meeting the time requirement. We met fifty seconds, but could have met or exceeded our time if we had taken more natural pauses. Something I'm excited for with the next conversation is to have a more natural flow, and to comfortably meet the time requirement without having to think about it. My partner did very well with knowing what to say at the right times. She used vocal inflection, and made frequent eye contact. I thought that she shared a similar struggle with me, in the sense that she didn't always take the right pauses. I could tell that she was trying really hard, and improving a lot from last time. I thought that she could improve mainly by relaxing and knowing what she's saying when she's talking. With me, I think I also need to relax a lot more and not necessarily memorize the conversation, but mentally focus on what I'm trying to communicate. For the next video, I feel like I would like to work with maybe Lauren or Rachel, but I would work with anyone who is willing to have a conversation that could go in any direction. A topic I think would be cool to discuss would be global warming, or recent news on space, maybe even recent disasters around the world. A way I think I can challenge myself is by talking to the Spanish exchange student who lived with me in Spanish over FaceTime.

Reflection-Video Three
Alondra and I practiced one time outside of class, and we both individually devoted time to our conversation outside of school by using the strategies we discussed and wrote down. A main strategy Alondra and I used together was being able to comprehend what each other was saying in Spanish without the script. Another main thing that I thought Alondra did really well with and I thought I did well with too was improvising in order to keep the conversation in motion. Because Alondra is already a Spanish speaker, it was easier for her to do this, but I felt as though I followed along pretty well without panicking. I feel as though Alondra helped to push me by improvising a little toward the end of our conversation, causing me to use what I knew to respond as best as I could. I would probably work with Alondra again in the future, but I would also like to challenge myself on a larger degree by having a non-Spanish speaking partner.
